A Chinese worker at an affiliate of Foxconn Technology, which has suffered 10 suicides this year, died on Tuesday after falling from the sixth floor of a dormitory building in Guangdong Province, Xinhua news agency reported.

The dormitory building in Foshan City is owned by Chimei Innolux Corp, Taiwan's largest LCD maker, a unit of Hon Hai Precision Industry Co Ltd, which also controls Foxconn International Holdings.

Initially Xinhua said the man was working at a Foxconn subsidiary, but a later version of the story named the facility's owner as Chimei Innolux, which was formed in a three-way merger earlier this year.

The agency quoted co-workers as saying the dead man was an 18-year-old summer intern who only began working at the firm last month.

Xinhua said police, government officials and a manager at Foxconn's Shenzhen firm confirmed the information about the death. Reuters could not immediately reach anyone at Foxconn or Chimei Innolux for comment.

Hon Hai, the world's largest electronic components maker, said earlier this year it would raise wages after conditions at Foxconn's sprawling manufacturing base in southern China came under intense international scrutiny.

Hon Hai has about 800,000 employees in China, and is one of the country's largest private employers.

A source with direct knowledge of the company's strategy told Reuters last month that it plans to build more factories for Chimei Innolux, as well as expand its existing plants at Foshan, Ningbo and Nanjing.

Hon Hai said it would seek higher prices from its clients, who include Apple, Dell and Hewlett-Packard, to offset the costs.

But the new Chimei Innolux factories will be in China's interior at Chengdu and Wuhan, where wages are much lower than in the industrialized coastal region.
