Although "Ant-Man" won't hit theaters until July 17, Peyton Reed recently revealed his wish to direct a sequel. He told Screen Rant that if Marvel plans to go ahead with “Ant-Man 2,” then he would like to helm it. Reed said he feels “real ownership over these characters.”

“Paul (Rudd) and I worked very closely in terms of what that character was and wasn’t. If we’re fortunate enough to do sequel, I would love to come back,” he said. Reed even praised Rudd for his brilliant acting skills and his professionalism. Reportedly, Rudd has a strong work ethic and this surprised Reed.

“He’s a co-screenwriter with McKay on the movie. And so he wasn’t just concerned with, 'I gotta have more lines in this scene!' He really had the big picture of this thing and it was important to him to create this character that fits into the larger MCU [Marvel Cinematic Universe], but it’s very specifically different than the other characters in MCU,” Reed said.

Apart from a solo film, Rudd will also play Ant-Man in “Captain America: Civil War.” Reed reportedly invited the director duo Anthony and Joe Russo to discuss their take on Ant-Man/Scott Lang, as he wanted continuity in their versions of the character.

Reed also revealed that he is possessive about “Ant-Man’s” characters, and he will like to see them evolve.

“Ant-Man” concerns Lang, a petty thief who must aid his mentor Hank Pym in safeguarding the Ant-Man technology. The Ant-Man suit gives superpowers to Lang and he must use them to save the world from evil.

Reed has directed from the screenplay by Edgar Wright, Joe Cornish, Adam McKay and Rudd based on the story by Wright and Cornish. Kevin Feige has produced it and other cast members include Evangeline Lilly, Corey Stoll, Bobby Cannavale, Michael Peña, Tip "T.I." Harris, Wood Harris, Judy Greer and David Dastmalchian.
