Apple Inc.
Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) is expected to report its first decline in quarterly earnings per share in nearly a decade. Reuters

The barrage of earnings reports this week will offer further guidance on the health of U.S. companies.

With only modest drag resulting from the so-called fiscal-cliff deal reached in Washington this month, the U.S. economy will likely plod along in 2013 slowly and unevenly, “stuck in second gear, unable to accelerate, but thankfully not plunging off a cliff,” David Levy, chairman of the Jerome Levy Forecasting Center LLC, wrote in the January Levy Forecast.

“Corporate earnings will in all likelihood continue to disappoint investors in 2013,” Levy added.

Investors will hear from a string of multinational outfits beginning Tuesday, the day after Martin Luther King Jr. Day, which is a federal holiday.

Among the 56 S&P 500 companies that have reported quarterly results so far, about 70 percent have topped analysts’ forecasts. Fourth-quarter profit grew 2.5 percent, the second-slowest quarterly growth since 2009, according to Bloomberg data.

We ran a screen and produced a list of 57 notable companies set to report their earnings Jan. 22-25. We have highlighted their expected reporting dates and times, along with analysts' earnings per share and revenue estimates from Reuters, as well as the stocks' year-to-date performances.
