Apple iOS 7 Downgrade To iOS 6 No Longer Possible

Although the adoption rate of Apple’s (NASDAQ:AAPL) revamped iOS 7 is growing fast, certain performance-related complaints about the new platform have been raised by users, leaving many to consider a downgrade to the earlier version, the iOS 6.

However, for users who don’t quite like the iOS 7 overhaul and want to revert back to iOS 6, this is no longer possible as Apple has officially pulled the plug on doing that. After releasing the iOS 7 last week, Apple quickly stopped signing the older firmware, meaning that users will not have access to the essentials to install iOS 6 on their devices.

If users now try to downgrade from iOS 7 to iOS 6, iTunes will show an error message, indicating that devices running on the public release of iOS 7 are not eligible for that specific firmware build. If you get that error while attempting to downgrade from iOS 7 to iOS 6, you can restore your device back to iOS 7 to get everything running again.

In June, International Business Times offered directions for an iOS 7 downgrade procedure, which was meant for users running the beta version of iOS 7 on their devices, so those instructions are now obsolete.

Meanwhile, despite some dissatisfaction among some users, the iOS 7 is increasingly being adopted with the new OS accounting for more than half of iOS web traffic across North America, one week since its public release.

Chitika, an online ad network, said in an update to an earlier report that 51.8 percent of web traffic from devices running iOS in the U.S. and Canada now come from iOS 7 powered iPhones, iPads, and iPods -- a jump of 20 percentage points in the iOS 7 adoption rate in five days since the last update.

According to Chitika, the iOS 7 accounted for 18 percent of North America’s web traffic just 24 hours after its release, and the adoption rate increased to nearly 32 percent by the afternoon of Sept. 20, only 48 hours after its release.
