Apple’s upcoming tablet iPad Air 3, also referred to in the tech world as iPad 7, reportedly will be released in October or November. In general, Apple has always released the next iteration of tablets prior to Christmas. With rumors pertaining to Apple tablets centering more on an iPad Pro, the iPad Air 3 and iPad Mini 4 have not garnered much attention. In any case, here is a summary of what we know so far about the new iPad Air 3.

Apple iPad Air 3 Specifications, Features

Speaking of key iPad Air 3 specifications, VC Post says, the device reportedly will come with a 9.7-inch display. On the software end, the tablet apparently will run on Apple’s upcoming iOS 9. Plus, the device will be thinner than predecessor iPad Air 2, with an expected thickness of 6.1 mm. Other rumored iPad Air 3 configurations include Apple A9 processor, 2 GB of RAM and 4K screen resolution and pixel density of 401 ppi, similar to the iPhone 6 Plus, according to Cross Map.

Ironically, Samsung is manufacturing the A9 processors for Apple.The deal reportedly will enable the South Korean tech giant to get back some of the customers lost to Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. Furthermore, rumors suggest the iPad Air 3 could sport a water- and dust-proof exterior.

Moving on to the camera configuration, Apple apparently increased the megapixel count of the rear-facing iSight camera of the iPad Air 2 in 2014. To be specific, the traditional 5 megapixel unit was replaced by an 8 MP unit. In addition, the predecessor iPad Air 2 also comes with burst mode, panoramas, slo-mo, time-lapse and timer mode. The features are expected to be part of the successor as well; however, there will not be any megapixel count improvement this time around, Mac World said.

Apple iPad Air 3 Price

According to Mac World, the iPad Air 3 will be priced similarly to last year’s iPad Air 2. Therefore, the iPad Air 2 with 16 GB storage and Wi-Fi only connectivity was reportedly priced at 399 GBP at launch. The 64 GB model, on the other hand, apparently came with a price tag of 479 GBP while the 128 GB variant was priced at 559 GBP. The upcoming Apple iPad Air 3 can be expected to be similarly priced. Nonetheless, Apple has yet to confirm the specifications or price for the iPad Mini 3.
