Rumors on Apple iPhone 5 are continuing to develop, and the latest is that iPhone 5 camera will boast of dual LED flash, according to Boy Genius Report.

If this rumor turns out to be true in September (the release month itself is also a rumor), then iPhone 5 may be playing even with other rival Android-based smartphones in terms of hardware.

Apple iPhone 4 was, and still is, one of the most popular smartphones available in the market, due to their sleek design, available apps, and the Apple brand name.

However, some of the criticisms against iPhone 4 had to do with poor camera performance.

“One widely discussed weakness of the Apple iPhone 4 is the camera. Users dissatisfied with the iPhone 4 camera's performance have turned to apps such as HDR Camera, True HDR, Instagram, which creates enhanced photos with more colors, more filters, and varying exposures,” said Gerald Greene of Gather.com.

Earlier rumors have said that the next generation of iPhone will have a 8-megapixel camera, already a significant improvement from the current 5-megapixel iPhone 4.

If iPhone 5 does come out with dual LED flash on top of the 8-megapixel, this will shine light upon the new device that can match what rival Android-based smartphones could offer.

A dual LED flash will enable stronger light for photos, thus utilizing it as a true flashlight tool and not just the white screen glow.

However, just by equipping a dual LED flash doesn’t put iPhone 5 at the forefront of the camera phone competition, as other smartphones have come out with the dual LED features, such as HTC Sensation 4G, and resolution higher than 8-megapixel, such as Nokia N8.

An important piece of the camera battle might be Apple’s new patent titled “Image Capture Device Having Tilt and/or Perspective Correction.” This feature is supposed to automatically compensate the orientation and distance, using various sensors such as gyroscope and accelerometers. With this, an iPhone user can take clear pictures from inside of a moving car.

Could these innovations help iPhone to play on the same ground with other rival Android-based phones, in terms of camera performance?
