Apple's latest beta iPhone OS 3.0 has reportedly kept a feature under wraps until now.

The beta version offers voice recognition and voice synthesis software that will be built will be built into the SpringBoard application, a source told Ars Technica.

The software, nicknamed Jabbler, controls the home screen, launches other applications, and will be the basis of the new Spotlight search feature.

Jabbler is said to most likely have voice functionality similar to the software bundled with the latest iPod Shuffle, i.e. a computerized voice reading off playlists and other textually-based content.
