GOOD NEWS! Customers in the United States who would only like to opt for an unlocked iPhone 4S can now place their orders for a contract free iPhone 4S and that too - Believe Me - from Apple online store.
Apple had earlier stated in October that the new iPhone 4S would be sold unlocked and contract-free. And the new announcement of accepting pre-orders for the iPhone 4S at Apple's online store in the U.S reiterates the company's commitment to the November release.
The unlocked iPhone 4S is priced at $649 for the 16GB model, $749 for 32GB model and $849 for 64GB. All the three models are expected to be shipped within one to two weeks when ordered from Apple's online store. However, Apple has added an advisory for the customers:
The unlocked iPhone works only on supported GSM networks, such as AT&T in the U.S. When you travel internationally, you can also use a micro-SIM card from a local GSM carrier. The unlocked iPhone will not work with CDMA carriers such as Verizon Wireless or Sprint.
Apple also appeals that the iPhone 4S handset is only available to buy for customers who are 18 or older and even warns that a credit check may be required for customers to buy the unlocked iPhone from its Store. Industry analysts are hopeful that this can prove to a major strategic development by the smartphone joint that can even multiply sales to many counts.
An unlocked iPhone 4S can now be a great companion for international travelers as you can now use it with any GSM provider worldwide; all you need is the necessary micro SIM. So, enjoy your iPhone 4S 'anywhere and everywhere' by just popping in a local carrier's SIM and avoid paying exorbitant roaming fees as you did earlier. Also, a no- contract iPhone means that you can now resell your iPhone 4S more easily in the international market.
Procuring an unlocked iPhone has been the dream of most people - Apple users or not, since its advent in 2007. While many took to unlocking/jailbreaking defying the warranty of the carrier; many opted for other smartphones, just to keep off being bound by a contract. However, Apple ushered a new beginning 5 months back when it began selling the GSM unlocked iPhone 4 in June, 2011.
How do you think this new development from Apple to offer unlocked iPhone 4S in the U.S change the game in the smartphone industry?
