Apple Inc said over 1 million people bought the latest version of its operating software for Mac computers on the first day.

The multi-touch enabled Mac OS X Lion, priced at $30, is the eighth major update for the Mac computer line that has integrated cloud storage in everything from word processing to calendars and to-do lists.

Apple has been on a tear in all of its major product lines and the California firm reported forecast-crushing results earlier this week.

The company sold 3.95 million Mac computers in the April-June quarter.
