Text message pranks for adults for April Fools' Day. Reuters

April 1 is almost here, which means it's time to plan how you'll turn one of your friends or family members into an April fool. These days, nearly everyone is on their cell phones regularly, so pranking someone with a text message hoax is a natural on April Fools’ Day. For people who need a little inspiration, some ideas and tips are provided below:

1. Text For Free App:

Thanks to this app, even the most skeptical person could be fooled on April 1. Simply download the “Text For Free App” and you will be given a different number. Pranksters can pick the area code they want to use, and their contacts will be automatically uploaded into the app. This means you can text anyone in your phone book with a different number. Let the fun begin. You can pretend to be George Takei for as long as the gag lasts.

2. B.-.-.-.-.

Text your friend that he or she is the word used to decribe a female dog. Our editors wouldn't want us to write out the actual word, but you get the . After you send the text, wait long enough to confuse the person, and then text back: "Beautiful, Intelligent, Talented, Cute, Hilarious." Don’t forget to remind the victim what day it is and add: “Happy April Fools’ Day!”

3. The Proposal:

This one is only for couples and it can go either horribly wrong or amazingly well. Ask your significant other to marry you over a text message. If the person says “yes,” you two will probably be walking down the aisle soon. If the person says “no,” you can explain yourself with an “April Fools!” response -- plus, now you know where you stand in the relationship.

4. I’m Pregnant:

This is an oldie but a goodie. Chances are it might not work, but if you have naive family and friends, it might fool them. Try phrasing it this way: “I know today is April Fools’ Day, but what I have to tell you all is not a joke. I’m pregnant.”

5. Fun Fact:

Who can resist a “fun fact”? Naturally, it won’t be factual at all. But tell your friends something like if they pretend to shake salt on their tongue they can actually taste it. After a moment, or after you think they’ve tried it, add: “99/100 fools will try. April Fools!”

Tip: Prank people at the stroke of midnight or in the early morning hours for the best success rates on April 1.

Good luck and Happy April Fools’ Day!
