Some parts of this world are utterly dangerous to be born female.

The global perceptions survey conducted by TrustLaw, a Thomson Reuters Foundation's legal news service, asked 213 gender experts from five continents to rank countries by overall perceptions of danger as well as by six risks: health threats, sexual violence, non-sexual violence, cultural or religious factors, lack of access to resources and trafficking, Reuters reported.

According to the poll, Afghanistan, Congo and Pakistan are the world's most dangerous countries for women, followed by India and Somalia.

According to Trust.org,

1. Afghanistan

Afghanistan ranked as the most dangerous country for women overall, known to be worst in health, non-sexual violence and economic discrimination.

Afghanistan has one of the highest maternal mortality rates in the world. That aside, it is also a context that gives a woman minimal opportunity for education, health access, reproductive health choice, etc. The lack of hope of the situation of women improving in the near future, as opposed to countries such as Sierra Leone and Southern Sudan, makes the situation comparatively even worse. - Dhammika Perera, International Rescue Committee

1/11 chance of dying in childbirth

70-80% face forced marriages

2. Congo

Recovering from a war and a humanitarian disaster that killed 5.4 million, Democratic Republic of Congo ranked second due mainly to staggering levels of sexual violence.

Among Congo women,

57% of pregnant women are anaemic

82% earn less than men

More than 1000 women and girls are victims of honour killings every year.

4. India
