“Are You the One?” viewers have long wondered how the cast always seems to figure out their perfect matches in the final hours of the series. After six seasons, only one cast has failed to uncover their secret partners determined by MTV’s matchmakers and win the shared $1 million. Season 6 joined the winner’s circle on Wednesday night.

Ahead of the network’s two-part reunion special, some of the program’s stars are speaking out about their show-stopping finale and how they managed to win after a season of failed truth booths and matchup ceremonies.

As seen in episode 12, the cast decided to get together before the final matchup to go over potential perfect match scenarios. Keith, who studied statistics in college, led the discussion, and thankfully for his co-stars, his assumptions were correct.

“Basically what we did is we went in the living room, and we all stood next to each other,” Audrey explained to InTouch. From there, the cast members stood next to their ceremony partners from each week to see which matches made sense and which did not.

“So [we’d say] like week one, stand next to your perfect match so we can physically see... Alright, so the people we think are the perfect matches, raise your hands as if you’re a beam. Then we’d try to figure it out and we’d switch it [to] week two, see if that makes sense,” Audrey added.

“We were physically moving our bodies so we could visually see it. And the last week, it worked. One of them finally worked and we were like, ‘Oh my god.’”

While their final scenario, which had Alexis and Anthony together, worried the entire cast, Audrey said they had to take a chance. The two ended up being a match. “It didn’t make sense, so we didn’t know if it really was gonna work, but we were like, ‘This is our best shot,’” Audrey explained.

Kareem told the outlet it was also about ignoring physical attractions and asking each of their co-stars the right questions to find out if they could be matched.

“Is it based on how I can help you, how you can help me, do we live close, do we live far from each other, our family issues, our goals? How are we matched with one another? Is it based on similarities or non-similarities? They just kept trying scenarios until they found one that worked,” he said.
