New Argentina manager Alejandro Sabella started his era with a win against Venezuela, thanks to a second half goal from Nicolas Otamendi.

Lionel Messi, handed his country's captain's armband for the first time, played his part in the 67th minute goal by whipping in the corner which was headed in by Porto defender Otamendi.

Messi's every touch was greeted with huge cheers from the Indian crowd at the Salt Lake Stadium, Kolkata, had an impressive day as captain. He created a host of chances for the forwards and himself had shots denied. Unlike Argentina's regime under Sergio Batista, Sabella gave Messi a buzz-free role and the 23-year-old was similar to the one that captivates while wearing the Barcelona shirt.
