Argentina Demands UK Negotiate Falklands Sovereignty On 30th Anniversary Of War

On the 30th anniversary of the end of the Falklands War, the president of Argentina has again demanded that Britain negotiate the sovereignty of the tiny islands that both countries claim.

In an address to the U.N. Committee on Decolonization, Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner bellowed: How can it be claimed that this territory is part of Britain? noting that England is almost 9,000 miles away.

The Argentines, who call the islands Las Malvinas, have expressed their outrage over British plans to drill for oil near the disputed territories.

British Prime Minister David Cameron asserted that “there will be absolutely no negotiation,” citing that the Falkland Islanders (who are of overwhelmingly British and northern European stock) prefer to remain under the UK umbrella.
