Arrow 502 synopsis
Oliver (Stephen Amell) might be a little too tough on his new recruits in “Arrow” Season 5, episode 2. CW

Oliver is finally moving forward, but that means he is going to be tougher than ever. In the “Arrow” Season 5 premiere, Ollie finally accepted that the Green Arrow needs a new team. Diggle and Thea are retired for good, so he accepted Felicity’s list of potential heroes. Oliver will work extra hard in episode 2 of the CW drama to take them from amateur vigilantes to superheroes.

Curtis (Echo Kellum) was first in line in the premiere, and Wild Dog (Rick Gonzalez) and Evelyn Sharp (Madison McLaughlin) will join him in episode 2, aptly titled “The Recruits.” Audiences met Sharp last year when she posed as the Black Canary. However, she and the others aren’t heroes yet. “Unfortunately, the Green Arrow’s training methods prove to be too much for some of them to handle,” the episode 2 synopsis reveals.

In the “Arrow” Season 5, episode 2 trailer above, Oliver (Stephen Amell) is shown fighting his new trainees. They clearly aren’t as skilled as he is, and they’ll get frustrated quickly. “I’m here to learn something, man,” Wild Dog says, “not just get beat up.”

As previously reported, Oliver isn’t going to be a gentle mentor. He’s pretty much a drill sergeant. However, he will understand his role in their heroic careers. “He appreciates more the significance of being a teacher and what that means,” Mericle told TVLine in August. “In terms of this universe of martial arts and fighting and training people and what that means, he’s learning there’s value in being a mentor.”

Arrow
Oliver (Stephen Amell) and Thea (Willa Holland) will argue over his mayoral duties in “Arrow” Season 5, episode 2. CW

Elsewhere, Oliver will still be balancing his double life. In photo above, it looks like Thea (Willa Holland) will be giving him a hard time again for ditching his mayor duties.

Oliver will likely be in trouble in the Russian flashbacks as well. In episode 1, Oliver was lead to a group of men who were ready to beat him. After surviving, his real Bratva introduction process begins. Unfortunately, the synopsis didn’t give any details about the obstacles that are coming next.

“Meanwhile, in the flashbacks, Oliver’s initiation into the Bratva continues,” the summary says. Fans will have to tune in to find out exactly what that includes.

“Arrow” Season 5, episode 2 airs Wednesday at 8 p.m. EDT on The CW.
