Premiership heavyweights Arsenal and Manchester City have zeroed in on League Two side Crewe Alexandra’s English U18 midfielder Nick Powell as their next young target and are expected to make a bid for the player when the summer transfer window opens, if the latest rumors are to be believed.

Powell, 18, who has been valued at $2.43 million (£1.5 million) by his club, is believed to have been a long term target for Gunners manager Arsene Wenger who has been tracking and monitoring the youngster for a long time. Apparently, Premiership rivals Manchester City are also interested in luring away the youngster who has been in an ecstatic form throughout the season, scoring 15 times.

Arsenal, who are known for scouting young talents and harnessing them under the Gunners’ youth system, are expected to make an attempt this season to land the player at the Emirates Stadium. Wenger knows the importance of a good youth unit and its significance in the club’s future and will, hence, work accordingly.

However, it is to be seen if the side lets the youngster leave after the form he has showcased throughout the season. Powell himself could be intimidated by such a massive move, which will see him rubbing shoulders with the best in the business.

Apart from Arsenal and Manchester City, Chelsea are also believed to be interested in the player, according to a Tribal Football report.

Powell, who was awarded the Football League's Young Player of the Month Award for December, has made as many as 60 appearances for the Steve Davies-managed side and has managed to score 15 times in all competitions.
