Now out of the running for defender Phil Jones, Arsene Wenger must turn his attention to other options.

One player that Arsenal is reportedly pursuing is stopper Gary Cahill, but Wenger is joined by another interested party: Manchester City.

Should the Citizens pass on Cahill, which might already be the case, Arsenal can sweep right in and add the 25-year-old defender, who Bolton Wanderers have been rumored to have placed a price tag of £17 million.

Should Cahill sign, the new Arsenal defense would appear to be taking good shape. Cahill is probably the best option of available central defenders in the Premier League.

Arsenal already confirmed the signing of 19-year-old Finland defender Carl Jenkinson from Charlton, but that's a move for the future, and Arsenal need to make a major effort to succeed next season after coming off such a disappointing 2010-2011.

The North London club have important business to take care outside of defense: extending the contract of midfield star Samir Nasri.

One of the best midfielders in the league, losing Nasri could prove to be a devastating blow to the club.
