Aftershocks: new quakes reported in Nagano and Morioka, Japan

A new earthquake has struck Japan near the prefecture of Nagano, according to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS).

The quake, of 6.2-magnitude, occurred at 10:59 a.m. (Pacific time) os 3:59 a.m. (local Japan time) and was centered 29 miles northeast of Nagano and 122 miles northwest of Tokyo.

Nagano police said they have not received any reports of major damage.

The quake also affected the Niigata Prefecture on the Sea of Japan coast, which is quite a distance far from the Pacific coastal area which was hammered by a magnitude-8.8 quake the prior day.

The USGS also said that a 6.1 magnitude earthquake hit near Morioka, Japan, at 11:02 a.m. (Pacific Time), or 4:02 a.m. local Japan time.

This one was centered 95 miles east southeast of Morioka and 303 miles northeast of Tokyo at 4:02 a.m. local time.
