India has won the Cricket World Cup by beating out Sir Lanka by six wickets. Led by the efforts of right-handed batsman and wicket-keeper Captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni – who put in his best performance of the tournament – the team returned the title to India for the first time since 1983.

The tournament was co-hosted by India, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh. To get to the championship match against Sri Lanka, India beat Australia in the quarter-finals and Pakistan in the semi-finals. In Group B, it beat Bangladesh, tied England, beat Ireland, beat the Netherlands, lost to South Africa, and beat the West Indies.
