Tom Brady, a three-time Super Bowl winning quarterback and likely NFL Hall of Famer, said in an interview that he was greatly relieved when he was finally drafted late in the 2000 NFL draft.

Brady, who played football for and graduated from the University of Michigan said in an interview with ESPN released on Sunday that he had expected to be drafted early.
"We were led to believe he was going to be drafted, possibly second round, probably third round," his father Tom Brady Sr. said.
Brady said in the interview he was "anxious" as other players were being selected ahead of him, noting that the fourth and fifth rounds came and went.
At the beginning of the sixth round the younger Brady said "I gotta get outta here," his father recalled. Brady took a baseball bat and started walking up the street.

Brady said he didn't want to get his hopes up and just "wanted to take my mind off it."
In the interview, getting emotional, Brady said he remembered taking a walk around the block with his mother and father.
"It was a tough day," he said. "They were just so supportive of me and they take it as emotional as I do."
"Finally, when the Patriots called, I was so excited," he said. "You know, I was like 'I don't have to be an insurance salesman,' you know."
"So my family was there. We were all excited and thank God I got picked here."
"He got drafted. And we were jubilant," his father said.
