It looks like former Middlesex frontrunner and current Kings XI Punjab captain, Adam Gilchrist, won't be in attendance for the inaugural presentation of the Big Bash cricket league, much to the dismay of Aussie fans and colleagues. The wicketkeeper-slash-batsman mentions several reasons why he chose not to participate in the said league.

Gilchrist, who willfully reduced his cricket playing time so he can spend more quality time with his family, says the holiday opening of the Big Bash is not a great timing for him. "I have had various approaches from people that are involved in the teams and I've told them that at this stage it is highly unlikely" says Gilchrist in an interview with the Press Trust of India.

The absence of the famous batsman on the much anticipated December- January 2012 league disappointed fans as they were expecting a huge wave of star power, and Gilchrist certainly is one the players expected to play until his announcement today.

Gilchrist played for various teams in the past - debuting with a 2-year contract with New South Wales, followed by a 4-year stint at Western Australia, and another 2 years  with the Deccan Chargers (where he became captain of the team).  His later career is spent as captain for the Middlesex squad and now the Kings XI Punjab. After retiring from international cricket in March 2008, Gilchrist has proved that his career contributed to the success of every team he's been with, including a heavy field exposure during the entire span of Australia's World Cup campaign.
