Reese Witherspoon’s comments at MTV Movie Awards not about Blake Lively

June 7, 2011 2:45 PM EDT

This past weekend actress Reese Witherspoon was awarded the MTV Generation Award at the 2011 MTV Movie Awards.

In her speech, Witherspoon urged the young women in Hollywood to hide their sex tapes and not take naked photos that reveal their faces.

It was initially speculated that this was targeted toward "Gossip Girl" star Blake Lively who is currently dealing with her own nude photo scandal.

"Reese was absolutely not referencing Blake Lively," Witherspoon's rep told "E! News" on Tuesday.

"I just want to say to all the girls out there, I know it's cool to be bad. I get it," Reese Witherspoon said during her acceptance speech. "All right, it's cool to be bad, but it's also possibly to make it in Hollywood without a reality show. "When I came up in this business, if you made a sex tape, you were embarrassed and you hit it under your bed. And like if you took naked pictures of yourself on your cell phone, you hide your face, people. Hide your face."

While Witherspoon's rep denies the comments were about Lively, the timing of them with the scandal are raised much speculation.
