New York Post has set up a new paywall blocking iPad access via Safari, a web browser, to its website directing the users to download the publication's app through the App Store.

The company has outstepped the New York Times or the Wall Street Journal, who offer limited access via Safari, by imposing restriction to all access forcing users to apply officially.

On navigating the NYpost.com site in Safari on the iPad it lands up in the page directing prospective readers to the App Store.

Thanks for coming. NYPost.com editorial content is now only accessible on the iPad through the New York Post App, the landing page read.

Subscription through the app runs for $6.99 a month, $39.99 for six months or $79.99 for a year, with no option for single-issue digital purchases.

The issue has only been seen within the Safari web browser on the iPad as applications like Opera and Skyfire are still enabled to access the website.
