Jolie is known for her status as a sex symbol, but also for her versatility as an actress. In 2009 the actress was nominated for an Oscar for Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role for her role in Changling. In 2000, Jolie took home an Oscar for Best Actress in a Supporting Role for Girl, Interrupted. In 2005, Jolie had her first taste at producing with Lovesick. The plot focuses on the pressures of family, culture and tradition, following the story of a Cambodian woman who is forced into a marriage with a man she doesn't know. Jolie was also the executive producer of the documentary Trudell, which is a chronicle of John Trudell, a Native American poet and activist.

Jolie, the Humanitarian

2003 saw the inception of the Maddox Jolie-Foundation, which has since been changed to Maddox Jolie-Pitt foundation.

The foundation is committed to creating peace and stability in communities by working with impoverished rural villagers and local governments. It aims to help alleviate food shortages and increase basic necessities, such as healthcare and education.

Jolie is also a UN High Commissioner for Refugees Goodwill Ambassador.
