GCap Launches New Jazz Station

By Richard Williams

London - GCap Media has announced today it will be launching its first national jazz station on DAB digital radio.

The station will be targeting the 35+ ABC1 demographic and will be attempting to plug the gap in the market for a jazz only station.

GCap hopes to achieve a similar success to that it achieved with Classic FM, which is now the UK’s largest commercial radio station and reaches 6.2 million listeners. Classic FM has its own TV station, magazine, website as well as popular concerts and CD’s.

Darren Henley, the Station Manager for Classic FM will be responsible for the new station.

Henley said in a statement: “We want to do for jazz what we’ve done for classical music at Classic FM. The service will be programmed in a similar style to Classic.”
