Apple iTunes Store Sales Top 2 Billion Songs

Apple Inc. announced on Tuesday that it has sold more than 2 billion songs through its online music store, iTunes, making the platform the most popular store of its kind.

At the Macworld Expo in San Francisco, the company also said its sold 50 million television shows and over 1.3 million movies to date, making it the most popular online TV movie store as well.

"iTunes has crossed another major milestone by selling over two billion songs—with over a billion of them sold in the last year alone—making it by far the world’s most popular music store," said Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO.

Shares of Apple rose $3.54, or 3.82 percent, to $96.11 in afternoon trading on the Nasdaq exchange.
