Triple digit growth for Asian, Hispanic households; Double digit growth for African Americans

U.S. TV Households to Jump 50 Pct. By 2050

NEW YORK - The total number of U.S. households with televisions will jump nearly 50 percent by the year 2050, according to new estimates from The Nielsen Company.

Nielsen Media Research, the New York-based company’s television audience measurement unit said Thursday in its annual report that the number of households TV households would increase 47 percent, or 111.4 million to 163.7 million.

In addition, the number of people living in the U.S. from 2008 to 2050 would grow 40 percent, from 283.5 million to 396.3 million.

The firm also found that Asian households would grow the fastest, followed by Hispanics and African Americans.

- Asian TV households wit television would increase 166 percent, from 4.4 million to 11.6 million

- Hispanic TV households would rise 136 percent, from 11.6 million to 31.0 million

- African-American homes would increase 59 percent, from 13.5 million to 22.4 million.

The current number of TV households is based on demographic estimates from marketing firm Claritas.

The projections from 2008 to 2050 are based on the U.S. Census bureau results released in 2004. The Nielsen report is titled Projected Estimates of TV Households and Persons 2008.
