NEW YORK - Money transfer company MoneyGram International Inc. led the premarket trading session Thursday on news of a buyout offer.
MoneyGram shares picked up $3.15, or 21.1 percent, to $18.05 after Euronet Worldwide Inc. said it offered $1.65 billion in stock for the company.
MoneyGram rejected the offer. Euronet operates automated teller machines.
Shares of MoneyGram closed at $14.90 Wednesday. Euronet Worldwide shares ended at $32.57.
Savient Pharmaceuticals Inc. shares added $6.29, or 43.5 percent, to $20.80 after the drug developer said a late-stage trial of a treatment for gout yielded good results.
The clinical trial of Puricase met the study's primary goal, the company said.
Based on the trial data, Cowen and Co. analyst Leland Gershell said it is likely the Food and Drug Administration will ultimately approve the drug. He rates the stock at "Outperform."
Shares closed at $14.46 Wednesday.
Jos. A Bank Clothiers Inc. shares rose $1.40, or 5.5 percent, to $27 in premarket trading, after the clothing retailer beat analyst estimates with fiscal third-quarter profit.
Quarterly profit jumped 29 percent, the company said.
