WASHINGTON - The California Hospital Association spent $260,000 in the first six months of 2007 to lobby the federal government, according to a disclosure form.
The group lobbied for "fair" Medicare and Medicaid payments to hospitals, recruitment and retention of health care professionals, expansion of coverage to uninsured people and improved access to information technology for providers, according to the form posted online Dec. 13 by the Senate's public records office.
Beside Congress, the group lobbied the Health and Human Services Department, the White House and the White House budget office.
The Sacramento, Calif.-based group represents nearly 450 member hospitals, health systems and health care providers, including several facilities owned by HealthSouth Corp., Kindred Healthcare Inc.
Lobbyists are required to disclose activities that could influence members of the executive and legislative branches, under a federal law enacted in 1995. They must register with Congress within 45 days of being hired or engaging in lobbying.
