Get Ready for Gadget, High-Tech Heaven at CES

Gadget lovers and technology enthusiasts will get a mega dose of new product announcements for the coming year as the International Consumer Electronics Show, the biggest U.S. trade show, opens Sunday night in Las Vegas with more than 140,000 people expected to attend.

Thousands of technology companies will be showing off their latest products, including high-definition TVs, mobile devices for video and music, as well as the latest in computing. Pre-show activities begin tomorrow, while show floors open Monday through Thursday.

Top industry figures will be on-hand with keynote addresses expected from Microsoft Chairman Bill Gates, Intel Chief Paul Otellini, and Yahoo CEO Jerry Yang. Automotive electronics systems will also be in focus, with GM Chairman and CEO Rick Wagoner expected to address conventiongoers.

More than 1.85 million square feet of space will be filled across various venues including the Las Vegas Convention Center, the Sands Expo and Convention Center, the Las Vegas Hilton and Venetian hotels.

One notable absence from the show will be Apple, which is choosing to put a focus on its upcoming lineup of products at Macworld, a week after CES.
