Intel unveils plans for "Personal Internet"

The president and CEO for Intel Corporation, Paul Otellini in his keynote address said internet has to evolve so as to create more business opportunities for the consumer electronics industries.

"We are in the midst of the largest opportunity to redefine consumer electronics and entertainment since the introduction of the television," said Otellini. "Increasingly, computing and communications are coming together bringing a new level of capabilities and intelligence to the internet experience.

The personal internet of tomorrow will serve you, delivering the information you want, when you want it, how you want it, wherever you are."

Otellini revealed a pocket sized device that has mobile internet with the ability to translate audibly and visually different kinds of information like building signs, conversations at a real time as well as restaurant menus in any language.

The device can also be used by a traveler to trace the correct direction by showing real time information on the device's screen.

In the coming three to five years, Intel will be bringing to users pocket sized devices with mobile internet.

Intel will be shipping its first low power processors and chipsets designed for mobile internet devices in the first half of this year.

The chipsets will be five times smaller than the existing ones with the ability to consume 10 times less power than the mobile processors that already exist on the market.
