ST. LOUIS - Electronics component maker Belden Inc. said Thursday its expects its 2008 earnings per share to rise but warned of a slowing economic climate.

The company said it expects to earn between $3.45 and $3.75 per share for the 2008 fiscal year, up from the $2.73 per share it made in 2007.
It anticipates sales between $2.2 billion and $2.3 billion compared with sales of $2 billion in 2007.
Belden said its sales estimate is based on "continuing expectations of slowing economic growth."
Analysts polled by Thomson Financial expect profit of $3.62 per share on sales of $2.27 billion.
Belden makes high-speed electronic cable and products. Its shares fell 56 cents to $40.34 in morning trading.
