Brooks said it expects a fiscal second-quarter result of breakeven or a 10 cents per share loss. Revenue is expected to be between $135 million to $150 million.

Analysts polled by Thomson Financial expect a profit of 14 cents per share on $165.3 million in revenue.

The outlook came at the same time the company announced fiscal first-quarter results, which also missed average analysts' estimates.

Brooks added that it has largely completed the business review that it began in the first quarter and has started cutting staff. The company says it expects to reduce its work force by at least 5 percent by March 1.
