Dollar Mixed, Gold Rises in Europe
LONDON - The U.S. dollar was mixed against other major currencies in European trading late Friday and the euro notched another record high against the greenback. Gold rose.
The euro traded at $1.5162, down from $1.5215 late Thursday in New York. The euro peaked at a record $1.5238 earlier in the day. Later, in midday trading in New York, the euro fetched $1.5177.
Other dollar rates in Europe, compared with late Thursday, included 104.13 Japanese yen, down from 105.36; 1.0451 Swiss francs, down from 1.0503; and 0.9803 Canadian dollars, up from 0.9745.
The British pound was quoted at $1.9855, down from $1.9926.
In midday New York trading, the dollar bought 104.14 yen and 1.0437 Swiss francs, while the pound was worth $1.9850.
Gold traded in London at $970.10 per troy ounce, up from $965.30 late Thursday. In Zurich, gold traded at $967.30 bid per troy ounce, up from $963.20.
Silver traded in London at $19.66, down from $19.71.
