NEW YORK - With the year's first quarter drawing to a close, discount toy and home products retailer Big Lots Inc. has been the top performer for the year thus far in the S&P 500's consumer discretionary sector.
Big Lots is up 48.2 percent so far this quarter.
At the other end of the 87-company spectrum, audio equipment and electronic systems maker Harman International Industries Inc. has fallen 36.5 percent this year.
The S&P 500 as a whole is down 8.1 percent for the year through March 24.
