The company reported his 2007 compensation in March of 2007, but has since switched its fiscal calendar, which now ends in December instead of March. Because of the switch, the company is counting results for the nine-month period from March 31 to Dec. 31.

During the transitional period, Coury received just over $1.1 million in salary, $2.1 million in incentives and $213,570 in other compensation. The bulk of his compensation came from restricted stock and options valued at $6.9 million on the day they were granted.

The Associated Press' calculations of total pay include executives' salary, incentives, perks, above-market returns on deferred compensation, and the estimated value of stock options and awards granted during the year. The calculations don't include changes in the present value of pension benefits, and may differ from totals detailed by companies.

For the 12 months ending March 31, 2007, he received compensation of about $9.2 million.

During the nine-month transitional period, Mylan's shares fell about 33.5 percent. The company lost $1.38 billion during the nine-month period because of charges related to the acquisitions of Indian drug-maker Matrix and Merck Generics. Excluding charges, it topped Wall Street expectations.

Shares of Mylan fell 4 cents to $11.45 in midday trading.
