WASHINGTON - A joint venture between Boeing Co. and Lockheed Martin Corp. has won a $124.1 million Air Force contract to supply launch services using the Atlas V rocket, which can put satellites and other payloads into space.
The Defense Department said late Monday that the United Launch Alliance will use the Atlas V rocket to provide satellite launch services for the Mobile User Objective System, an array of communications satellites being developed by the Pentagon. The United Launch Alliance operates the Delta IV family of rockets, which were developed by Boeing, and the Atlas V family of rockets, which were developed by Lockheed Martin.
