NEW YORK - Moody's Investors Service put MTR Gaming Group Inc.'s ratings under review for a possible downgrade Friday, citing internal controls weakness.

The agency said it will look at the Chester, W. Va.-based company's short-term liquidity as well as its operating performance. Moody's will also assess the possible impact of a strike at MTR's Mountaineer Casino Racetrack & Resort.
On Tuesday Mountaineer workers were on their fourth day of a strike, complaining that casino executives made empty promises about great-paying jobs. The strike by 200 union cashiers, slot technicians and money room workers began early Saturday. As of Tuesday, no new talks had been scheduled between the casino and Local 23 of the United Food & Commercial Workers, which remain far apart on wages and benefits.
MTR Gaming Group owns and operates racetrack, casino and hotel properties. Aside from Mountaineer, its other facilities include Presque Isle Downs & Casino in Erie, Pa., and Scioto Downs in Columbus, Ohio.
