

NEW YORK - Shares of gold-mining companies closed higher Wednesday after the price of the precious metal increased.
Gold for June delivery added $15.70 to $947.70 an ounce on the New York Mercantile Exchange, after earlier rising as high as $952.70 its highest level in two weeks.
Here is how some sector companies fared.
Goldcorp Inc. rose $2.14, or 5.2 percent, to $43.41.
Gold Fields Ltd. rose 71 cents, or 4.9 percent, to $15.11.
Newmont Mining Corp. rose $2.46, or 5.4 percent, to $47.91.
Barrick Gold Corp. rose $2.56, or 5.9 percent, to $46.04.
