UK Coal profits jump 292%

UK Coal has reported an increase in pre-tax profit of 292 per cent to £69.0 million, for the full year 2007. The company's earnings per share also rose 412 per cent to 59.9 per cent.

UK Coal also reported a rise in operating profit of 39 per cent to £4.3 million in power generation.

David Jones, chairman of the company, said, "UK Coal has delivered another year of substantial progress in all our businesses... We have shown we have a strong growth platform, that we are effectively executing our strategy and that we have the potential to deliver further substantial value this year and beyond."

He added, "With a positive outlook for all our businesses, we face the current financial year with considerable confidence."
