

NEW YORK (AP) - Shares of gold mining companies closed mostly lower Monday as the price of the commodity barely changed during the trading session.
Gold for June delivery edged up a mere $2.40 to settle at $917.60 an ounce on the Comex division of the New York Mercantile Exchange, after earlier rising as high as $931.90.
Here is how some gold mining companies fared:
Goldcorp Inc. fell 49 cents to $41.07.
Gold Fields Ltd. rose 7 cents to $14.39.
Newmont Mining Corp. fell $1.19 to $45.08.
Barrick Gold Corp. fell 62 cents to $43.14.
