Dollar rises, gold falls in Europe
LONDON (AP) - The U.S. dollar rose against other major currencies in European trading Wednesday. Gold fell.
The euro traded at $1.5875, down from $1.5989 late Tuesday in New York. Later, in midday trading in New York, the euro fetched $1.5901.
Other dollar rates in Europe, compared with late Tuesday, inluded 103.52 Japanese yen, up from 103.09; 1.0149 Swiss francs, up from 1.0028; and 1.0197 Canadian dollars, up from 1.0084.
The British pound was quoted at $1.9800, down from $1.9952.
In New York midday trading, the dollar bought 103.42 yen and 1.0144 Swiss francs, while the pound was worth $1.9793.
Gold traded in London at $900.50 per troy ounce, down from $919.00 late Tuesday. In Zurich, gold traded at $900.00 bid per troy ounce, down from $917.60.
Silver traded in London at $17.18, down from $17.64.
