US dollar up in Europe

LONDON (AP) - The U.S. dollar was mostly higher against other major currencies in European trading Wednesday morning. Gold fell.

The euro traded at $1.5952, down from $1.5989 late Tuesday in New York.

Other dollar rates:

_103.23 Japanese yen, up from 103.09

_1.0078 Swiss francs, up from 1.0028

_1.0074 Canadian dollars, down from 1.0084

The British pound was quoted at $1.9942, down from $1.9952

Gold traded in London at $916.25 per troy ounce, down from $919.00 late Tuesday.

In Zurich, gold traded at $913.20 bid per troy ounce, down from $917.60.

Silver opened in London at $17.64, unchanged.
