NEW YORK (AP) - Shares of gold mining companies opened higher Friday as broader market gains offset a small decline in the price of the precious metal.
Gold traded in London at $883.50 per troy ounce, down from $891.10 late Thursday. In Zurich, gold traded at $882.35 bid per troy ounce, down from $891.20.
Here is how some gold miners companies are trading:
Goldcorp Inc. rose 36 cents to $36.66
Gold Fields Ltd. rose 14 cents to $13.85
Newmont Mining Corp. rose $1.13, or 2.6 percent, to $44.10
Barrick Gold Corp. rose 17 cents to $39.40.
