AMD Introduces its First Computer Brand

SAN FRANCISCO - Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) unveiled its first computer brand targeting mainly small and medium sized businesses with design and sales help coming from its major chip customers such as Dell.

AMD said that it will also introduce notebook PCs during the second half this year.

According to Hal Speed, a marketing architect for AMD, various AMD customers who are set to start selling AMD's computers include Acer, Dell, Fujitsu-Siemens, Hewlett-Packard and Lenovo.

The release of a new product line is part of AMD's efforts to increase its competitive advantage against its closest rival Intel Corp.

AMD has so far reported six consecutive quarters of net losses as Intel regained much of the market share that it had lost to AMD in 2005 and the beginning of 2006.

AMD said that the Business Class desktop personal computers are aimed at the small and medium sized business market including some big corporate clients.
