MILPITAS, Calif. - JDS Uniphase Corp. issued a fiscal fourth-quarter revenue forecast below Wall Street estimates late Wednesday, sending shares of the communications equipment provider sharply lower in after-hours trading.

The company expects revenue in the range of $381 million to $403 million, while analysts polled by Thomson Financial were projecting sales of $405.3 million.
The company also posted a smaller loss for the third quarter citing an increase in fiber-optic component sales.
Shares of the Milpitas, Calif.-based company closed down 27 cents at $14.31. They fell $1.43, or 10 percent to $12.88 in after-hours trading.
