US dollar down in Europe

LONDON - The U.S. dollar was mostly lower against other major currencies in European trading Wednesday morning. Gold fell.

The euro traded at $1.5546, down from $1.5564 late Tuesday in New York.

Other dollar rates:

_104.11 Japanese yen, down from 104.17

_1.0379 Swiss francs, down from 1.0382

_1.0105 Canadian dollars, down from 1.0122

The British pound was quoted at $1.9686, up from $1.9681

Gold traded in London at $867.75 per troy ounce, down from $877.15 late Tuesday.

In Zurich, gold traded at $864.45 bid per troy ounce, down from $876.75.
