Dollar mostly rises, gold falls in Europe

LONDON (AP) - The U.S. dollar was mostly higher against other major currencies in European trading Thursday. Gold fell.

The euro traded at $1.5449, down from $1.5642 late Wednesday in New York. Later, in midday New York trading, the euro fetched $1.5455.

Other dollar rates in Europe, compared with late Wednesday, included 103.99 Japanese yen, down from 104.17; 1.0477 Swiss francs, up from 1.0338; and 1.0213 Canadian dollars, up from 1.0046.

The British pound was quoted at $1.9722, down from $1.9893

In midday trading in New York, the dollar bought 104.18 yen and 1.0479 Swiss francs, while the pound was worth $1.9731.

Gold traded in London at $848.40 per troy ounce, down from $869.60 late Thursday. In Zurich, gold traded at $849.75 bid per troy ounce, down from $865.45.

Silver traded in London at $16.05, down from $16.53.
