New York City's 10-year contracts with Cablevision and Time Warner Inc. expire this year. Most city households now receive cable service from either Cablevision in the Bronx and eastern Brooklyn or Time Warner in Manhattan, Queens, western Brooklyn and Staten Island. On Tuesday, New York City reached an agreement with Verizon for a cable television franchise contract. If the deal is approved by a city review committee, Verizon will also offer cable service in all five boroughs.
STOCK PERFORMANCE: Cablevision shares fluctuated between $20.68 and $28.90 during the period. The stock ultimately lost nearly 13 percent to close at $21.43 on March 31.
