EL PASO, Texas (AP) -Utility company El Paso Electric Co. said Tuesday its first-quarter profit slipped 4 percent, because of increased operating expenses at its nuclear power station, executive severance costs and decreased investment income.

BALTIMORE (AP) -Legg Mason Inc. lost more than $250 million in the fiscal fourth quarter as the investment manager set money aside for possible bailouts of funds suffering from turbulent markets, the company said Tuesday.
